Is there a means of identifying words in the text that are included in the
glossary? These are often formatted with *glossary word.

The gloss attribute on <w> is for a language gloss, not a glossary
pointer, e.g. <w gloss="en:truth">ALHQIA</w>

Troy,
Thanks for pointing out errors. Is index correct then? I would need to be
able to identify which index... as there might be index of key terms,
geographic terms, weights and measures...
